ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington Head Baseball Coach Jeff Curtis has announced the 2004 Baseball schedule. The schedule is highlighted by a 33-game home season and contests against 2003 College World Series teams Texas and Southwest Missouri State.
"We are very excited to have 33 home games this season," said the third year coach. "We feel that we have a top notch schedule with playing some of the better teams out of the Big 12. If we can be successful with our schedule, it should really help with our RPI."
The Mavericks will get their season started on the road as they open the season on Feb. 10 as UTA travels down I-35 to take on Texas in a 2:30 p.m. first pitch. UTA will follow that game up with a road trip to the New Orleans for a three-game set with Tulane on Feb. 13-15.
Unlike last season when the Mavericks played their first 24 games on the road, UTA will only have to wait until the fifth game of the season in 2004 to take the field at Clay Gould Ballpark as they welcome the Horned Frogs of TCU on Feb. 17. After a trip to Centenary the next day, the Mavericks return home for the UTA Invitational on Feb. 20-22. The Mavericks will meet Oregon State on the first day, Southwest Missouri State on Friday and Arkansas-Little Rock on Sunday.
The Mavericks and their fans can get used to heading to Clay Gould Ballpark as over the next three weeks as UTA will play 11 of its next 12 games at home. UTA will host a three-game series against new Division I foe Dallas Baptist, as well as games against Oklahoma, St. John's (2), TCU, Baylor and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3).
UTA opens up Southland Conference play at home on March 19 as it begins a three game series with Sam Houston State. The Mavericks also have home SLC series against Nicholls State, Lamar, Northwestern State and Texas-San Antonio.
Amidst an eight game homestand in mid April, the Mavericks will welcome Big XII powers Oklahoma State, on the 13th, and Texas A&M, on the 20th, to Clay Gould Ballpark.
The SLC tournament will be held in Hammond, La. on May 25-29.
