UT-ARLINGTON'S MAREK NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA DISTRICT VI

ARLINGTON, Texas - Melissa Marek, a sophomore on The University of Texas at Arlington volleyball squad, was named to the Academic All-America District VI Second Team announced today by CoSIDA. The team consists of eight members and is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The middle blocker has appeared in 62 games for the Mavericks this season and is averaging 1.15 kills and 0.53 blocks per game.

Marek is an accounting major and owns a 4.0 grade point average. In 2002, Marek was named the B.G. Wilson Scholar Athlete of the Year, the highest honor awarded by the UTA Athletics Department.

The Mavericks will close out regular season play Saturday, November 15 at Sam Houston State.
