The University of Texas at Arlington head golf coach Jay Rees has announced the signing of Taylor McNeely to a National Letter of Intent to attend the university and begin playing golf for the Mavericks in the Fall of 2004.
McNeely is a three time all-District 45-A selection from Duncanville High School. He has twice qualified for University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region I Golf Tournament and has eight Top 10 finishes in high school tournaments. McNeely owns a tournament best round of 64 and captured the championship at the American Junior Gof Association (AJGA) Colorado Round-Up Qualifier in 2001.
"Taylor is a big kid (6-foot-2), comes from an athletic family,'"said Rees, now in his fifth season. "His brother played college golf at Kansas State and I think that will help him make the adjustment to college golf. He is a hard worker. He is definately capable of playing as a freshman. He is self-motivated and will make a solid contribution to our program. I think he can win tournaments individually and help us win the conference championship."
McNeely is also very strong in the classroom as he owns a 3.7 GPA and ranks in the top 10 percent of his graduating class.
The Mavericks will begin the spring season on Feb. 9-10 when they travel to Houston for the Rice Invitational.
