SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. ... The University of Texas at Arlington's golf team shot the second best round of the day as the Mavericks finished third at the Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Wednesday. UTA finished 11 strokes behind the tournament champion Arizona State junior varsity team.

The Mavericks shot 290 on Wednesday, the second straight round UTA came away with that score. Overall, the Mavericks shot 302-290-290=882 to finish 11 strokes behind the Sun Devils JV team. Another JV squad, this one from San Diego State, finished second by shooting 873 over the 54 holes. Oklahoma City University finished third with an 885, while tournament host Wyoming rounded out the top five with an 887.

The 290 that UTA shot on Wednesday was bettered only by the Arizona State JV's 289 and matched by only one other team, Oklahoma City.

Anthony Estorga finished fifth with a 54-hole 219. He shot rounds of 74, 71 and 74. Jordan Krantz and Tyrone Mordt tied for seventh by each shooting 220. Krantz shot 75-72-73=220, while Mordt shot 76-74-70=220. Mordt's third round 70 was the Mavericks' best round of the tournament.

Garry Antunes and Brandon Mullen rounded out UTA's scoring. Antunes tied for 26th, shooting 77-75-73=225, while Mullen tied for 34th with a score of 79-73-78=236.

The Mavericks will return to action when they compete at the Southland Conference Tournament April 21-23.
