BEAUMONT, Texas - - The Texas-Arlington men's cross country team used a balanced attack to take fifth place at the 2004 Southland Conference Championships at the Idlywild Golf Course here Monday.
UTA had just one runner - junior Daniel Noah (17th/25-minutes, 35.06-seconds) - in the top 20, but managed to score 149 team points.
Stephen F. Austin won the league title for the fourth consecutive season with 32 points as all five runners finished with in the top 12. Sam Houston State (50), Lamar (116), Texas State (144) and UTA round out the top five.
Freshmen Jody Broccoli-Hickey (23rd/25:49.10), Chris Miller (33rd/26:29.00), Hunter Garner (35th/26:32.13) and Kevin Opp (41st/26:41.10) rounded out the Mavs scoring. Davis Tagi finished 43rd with a time of 26:46.08 over the 8K course.
