MOBILE, Ala. - The UTA men's golf team wrapped up the 2004 fall schedule with an inspired round of golf, rallying from a nine-shot deficit in intermittent rain to finish one stroke behind Louisville at the 2004 Fall Beach Classic at Magnolia Grove Golf Club here Tuesday.
UTA had the day's best round with a 289 to leap frog past Southern Mississippi and Louisiana-Monroe to finish at 10-over-par 874. Louisville scored a final round total of 289 and 873 for the tournament. The second place finish was the third of the fall season for the Mavericks to go along with two tournament titles -- SMU Invitational and the Squire Creek Intercollegiate in Ruston, La.
Junior Tyrone Mordt (Johannesburg, South Africa) paced the Mavs with the top round of the tournament a four-under-par 68 to win the medalist honors with a six-under-par 210 total for the 54-hole tournament.
Jordan Krantz (Vermillion Bay, Canada) placed a top 10 finish, tying for sixth with a time round even-par 72 for a 219.
Marc Campbell (Southlake, Texas) and Jeff Murray (Odessa, Texas) tied five others for 20th place at 225. Murray, the top golfer of the fall for the Mavs with a 72.10 stroke average, finished with rounds of 75, 76 and 74. Campbell shot a 79 on the final after rounds of 74 and 72 on Monday. Redshirt freshman Zack Reeves (Arlington, Texas) finished in 37th with a final round 75 for a two-day total of 14-over-par 230.
