Sept. 4, 2004

Box Score

Buffalo, N.Y. - Junior Ashley Van Antwerp powered the Texas-Arlington offense for the third straight match slamming 12 kills as the Mavericks handed Buffalo a three-game loss Saturday morning at the Western New York Invitational. Game scores in the match were 30-23, 30-15, 30-22 as the Mavericks improved to 3-0 on the year.

UTA took control of the match with a strong offensive effort at the net, recording a .444 clip, while limiting Buffalo to .222 mark.

A .341 hitting percentage in game one and seven kills from freshman Morgan Rogers powered the Mavericks to a 30-23 victory.

The Mavericks mounted a 23-11 lead after seven straight points in game two. After three straight Buffalo scores, UTA closed it out on a 7-1 run for a 30-15 win.

The storyline looked like much of the same early in game three as the Mavericks led by as many as seven before Buffalo started to scratch its way back. Buffalo pulled within four at 24-20 but UTA used a 6-2 run fueled by Van Antwerp to take game three 30-22.

Joining Van Antwerp in double digits was Rogers who contributed 11 kills. Van Antwerp led the Mavs defense as well recording 12 digs to complete her second double-double of the season.

Texas-Arlington will close out tournament action this evening with a 7 p.m. (eastern) match at co-host Niagara University.
