HAMMOND, La. - The Texas-Arlington volleyball wasted a 2-0 lead, falling to Southeastern Louisiana, 23-30, 27-30, 30-26, 30-28, 15-12, Friday evening in Southland Conference play at the University Center.

With the score, tied, 5-5 in game five, Southeastern Louisiana (5-10, 1-5 SLC) went on a 9-5 run to take a 14-10 lead, led by Jones who had three kills. The Mavericks (2-12, 0-5 SLC) held tight, taking the next two points on a kill by sophomore Ellen Murray and a hitting error by the Lady Lions. A block by the home team gave them the 3-02 victory.

Receiving her first start at middle blocker, Murray made an immediate impact, tallying two kills and a service ace leading the Mavericks to an 18-12 lead. Southeastern Louisiana used an 8-4 run to cut the deficit to 22-20. Brittany Pomes led the way with a kill and a block. Texas-Arlington cut the rally off, winning eight of the next nine points to take game one, 30-23.

Sophomore Torie Dacus was also in an unfamiliar position, starting at outside hitter for the first time this season. She responded with four kills, leading Texas-Arlington to a 17-15 lead and forcing the Lady Lions into a timeout. Southeastern Louisiana took five of the next seven points to take a 20-19 lead. Down, 25-24, the Mavericks used a 6-2 run, keyed by two kills each from sophomore Gina Kalb and senior Ashley Van Antwerp to take the second game, 30-27.

In game three, the Lady Lions raced to a 9-4 lead on the strength of three kills by Erin Miles and two kills from Keri Hamlin. Up 17-15, Southeastern Louisiana turned to Melissa Jones who rattled off eight kills in game two, leading them to a 30-26 victory and cut the lead to, 2-1 in games.

Game four saw both teams trade points back and forth to knot the score, 13-13. Jones and LaToya Anthony both registered two kills each as the Lady Lions produced a 9-1 run to go ahead, 22-14. Texas-Arlington fought back using a 13-4 run, using three kills by Van Antwerp and two from Kalb to cut the lead to 27-26. Southeastern Louisiana regrouped and received two kills to take game four and force a deciding game five.

Van Antwerp led the Mavericks with 17 kills, while Dacus chipped in with 13 kills. Junior setter Ashley Smith dished out 47 assists and sophomore Dani Johnson posted a career-high 39 digs at the libero position.

Jones led the Lady Lions with 21 kills and Chelsie Cude had a game-high 69 assists. Megan Sutherland also had a game-high 43 digs.

Southeastern Louisiana outhit the Mavericks, .194, to .163. Texas-Arlington also had seven service errors.

Texas-Arlington will play its first conference home match of the season when it takes on Lamar Friday evening at 7 p.m. The Mavericks will also host McNeese State on Saturday at 7 p.m. in another conference tilt. Both matches will be played at Texas Hall.

NOTES: Van Antwerp posted her eight double-double of the season and 30th of her career ... Dacus also posted her first double-double of the season and fourth all-time ... all-time series (15-2) ... the Mavericks had 125 digs, the last time they went over 125 was Oct. 1, 2004 against Texas State ... this was the first match that Dacus started at outside hitter, Murray at middle blocker, Smith at setter and Kalb at right side.
