PLANO, Texas - Senior Melissa Marek was selected to the first team of the 2005 Hibernia Bank Southland Conference All-Academic team Wednesday afternoon by league offices.

The middle blocker from Cameron, Texas posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in accounting and is currently working towards her master's degree in the same major. Marek is a three-time All-Southland Academic pick as well as a three-time District VI All-Academic selection. She was named to the second team as a sophomore, first team as a junior and senior. The senior middle blocker is a recipient of the B.G. Wilson Female Scholar Athlete of the Year Award at UTA and has earned numerous honor roll accolades.

For the season, Marek was second on the team in kills per game (2.39) and blocks per contest (0.99). She was also second on the team in hitting percentage at .308, which was good enough for sixth in the conference.
