KINGWOOD, Texas - UTA's Jordan Krantz shot a two-under par 70 on Tuesday to lead the Mavericks to the top of the scoreboard after two rounds of the 2005 Southland Conference Men's Golf Championship. As a team, UTA posted a two-over 290 to take over the top spot after 36 holes with a total of 579 after carding a 289 on Monday.
Lamar University led after day one at the Kingwood Forest Course in Kingwood, Texas, but fell off its first day total of 288 to post a 301 in round two for a two-day score of 589. The Cardinals now sit in third place, one stroke behind defending champion Louisiana-Monroe (588). Stephen F. Austin carded a 302 on Tuesday and is fourth in the standings with its 595. Southeastern Louisiana rounds out the top five at 602.
ULM made the biggest jump, up from a tie for sixth place after round one, but trail the Mavericks by nine heading into the final 18 holes of play. Tim Kunick paced the Indians with a 71 on Tuesday, giving him a two-day total of 141, two strokes behind Krantz, who has put together rounds of 69-70--139 for UTA. Tyrone Mordt of UTA finds himself two strokes under par and in third place after posting a pair of 71s for a two-day total of 142.
SFA's Trevor Sauntry, who was tied with Krantz and teammate Dustin Byrd at 69 after round one, slipped eight strokes and to fourth place after recording a 77 on Tuesday. Byrd fell into a tie for sixth after shooting 78.
The final round of the championship is schedule to start at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
