HUNTSVILLE, Texas - For the fifth year in a row, a Haglund has claimed the Southland Conference 1,500 meter championship.
This time it's Lisa.
The younger sister of four-time SLC 1,500-meter champion Kasja Haglund, Lisa turned on a powerful kick along the final curve to win the race going away from Lamar's Jacqueline John by almost six seconds to highlight action at the 2005 Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships here Sunday.
Haglund capped off the day with a fifth-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:05.85.
Haglund was joined on the winner's podium by junior Ivorita Taylor She claimed the 800-meter title with a season-best 2:11.88, the fifth fastest in school history.
As a team, UTA finished fifth with 73.5 points. Sam Houston State won the event with 172.5 points. Texas State (137), Stephen F. Austin (125), Texas-San Antonio (113) and UTA rounded out the top five. Lamar (72), Louisiana-Monroe (49), Northwestern State (46), Southeastern Louisiana (19) and McNeese State (10) completed the team scoring.
Sophomore Lacey Moore earned all-SLC honors with a third-place tie in the pole vault with a personal-best height of 11-feet, 5.75-inches. Teammate Vanessa Maida tied for eighth with a vault of 10-11.75.
Ellen Garrison and Shana Rash finished third and fourth in the 100 meters. Garrison captured her first all-SLC honor in just her second sprint race at UTA with an 11.92. Rash clocked a 12.00 for fourth place and gave the Mavs nine points in the team standings.
