Sophomore Tiffanie Reeves added her name to the NCAA region qualifying list with a qualifying mark of 14.47 meters to win the shot put at the 25th Annual UTA Open at Maverick Stadium Saturday.
The meet is the final tune up for the Mavs as they compete at the 2005 Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 13-15, at Huntsville, Texas.
UTA pole vaulters Vanessa Maida and Lacey Moore cleared heights of 3.45 meters (11-03.75) to place second and third, respectively. Junior Ivorita Taylor ran her best time of the season (2:12.52) to place second in the women's 800 meters. Freshman Angela Gonzales was third in the long jump with a leap of 5.76 meters.
On the men's side, Quinchun Carey won the long jump with a jump of 7.52 meters to defeat Abilene Christian's Yevgan Pashchenko's effort of 7.37 meters.
Freshman Michael Cast took third place in the javelin with a toss of 54.03 meters and junior Ed Broadnax was third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.40.
