PLANO, Texas - Senior outside hitter Ashley Van Antwerp of Texas-Arlington was selected Aeropostale/Student- Athlete of the Week by the Southland Conference office Monday. She garnered the co-defensive player of the week award, sharing the honor with Stephen F. Austin's Stephanie Figgers for the week ending Aug. 29.

Van Antwerp, a Colleyville, Texas, native, played all six games at the Texas A&M/Fazoli's Funfest Tournament as UTA finished with a 1-1 record last weekend. She averaged 2.33 kills, 5.00 digs, 0.33 blocks and 5.00 points.

The Mavericks defeated Prairie View A&M, 3-0, but fell to 16th-ranked Texas A&M, 3-0.

UTA will be back in action this weekend when it participates in the Courtyard by Marriott Ft. Meade Classic in College Park, Md. The Mavericks open the tourney Friday, taking on Rutgers at 4 p.m. On Saturday, they will challenge Marshall at noon and tournament-host Maryland at 6:30 p.m.
