PLANO, Texas - Texas-Arlington's Ashley Van Antwerp was named Aeropostale/Student-Athlete Player of the Week by the Southland Conference on Monday. She was named offensive player of the week for her performances Sept. 5-11.

Van Antwerp, an outside hitter from Colleyville, Texas, played in every match for the Mavericks as they went 1-3. The senior averaged 4.88 kills per game and 3.00 digs per game. She had a career-high 29 kills against Iowa in last week's UTA/Hilton Invitational. Van Antwerp was also named to the all-tournament team.

The award was Van Antwerp's second of the season. She was named Southland co-defensive player of the week in week one.

The Mavericks will open up Southland conference play this weekend when it travels to take on Texas-San Antonio on Friday at 7 p.m. They will also play at Texas State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
