UTA fired a final round score of nine-over-par 297 to move up the standings and claim a third-place tie with Washington State at the 2005 Northwest Collegiate Classic here Tuesday.
Windy conditions and tucked pin placements made the Trysting Tree Golf Club course tougher Tuesday than Monday's shooting gallery that saw UTA post a 14-under-par 560.
Senior Tyrone Mordt and sophomore Zack Reeves each claim top 10 finishes after finishing the tournament under par. Mordt fired a final round 73 to finish the tournament at 207, one stroke off the school record for a 54-hole tournament set by Shad Muth in 2002.
Reeves had a personal-best tournament with a six-under-par 210.
Senior Jeff Murray (76), junior Michael Douthit (77) and junior Ryan Zamorano (79) rounded the Mavs' efforts.
Oregon State (850) defended their tournament title with a six-stroke win over UC-Irvine. UTA and Washington State (859) tied for third followed by Long Beach State (864), St. Mary's of Calif. (865), Oregon (872), New Mexico State (874) and San Diego (878).
Cal State -Northridge claimed tenth place (822) whiel Cal Poly (883), Wichita State (884), Pacific (898), Portland (907) and San Jose State (920) rounded out the field.
Golf notes: Junior Byran Baker had rounds of 72-73-145 to win the UTA Jayvee Tournament held at The links at Waterchase Teusday. Marc Campbell (72-74-146) and Michael Mullin (77-71-148) rounded out the top three for the Mavs. Chris Myers had rounded of 75 and 79 for a 154.
