RENO, Nevada - Sophomore Zack Reeves (Arlington, Texas) fired a final round one-under-par 71 for a 54-hole total of 209 and his second top 10 finish in as many tournament to highlight play at the 2005 Nevada Wolf Pack Invitational Wednesday.
Tournament host Nevada rallied from fourth place after the first round to win the tournament by two strokes over New Mexico State (854) and four better than Arkansas (856). Utah finished fourth at 859 and Denver at 861. SLC member Lamar tied for 13th at 883.
Reeves was the only Maverick to shoot under par for three straight rounds (71-67-71-209) to post his second top 10 finish this season. The 209 total ranks among the top 10 all-time 54-hole scores, three shots behind Shad Muth's 206 in 2002.
Junior college all-American Ryan Zamorano (Dallas, Texas) finished at 218 while senior Tyrone Mordt (Johannesburg, South Africa) shot an opening round 75, but regrouped to shoot two rounds of even-par 72 on the 6,937-yard, par-72 layout. Jeff Murray (Odessa, Texas) posted rounds of 70, 76, 74 for a 220 and Marc Campbell (Southlake, Texas) posted a 226 (75-76-75).
Sophomore Michael Douthit (Palestine, Texas) shot a career-best 68 on the opening round and carded a 72 today to go along with a 77 in round two for a 217.
