HOUSTON, Texas - Sophomore distance runner Jodi Hulett (Arlington, Texas) ran a personal-best time of 10:20.74 to take second place in the women's 3,000-meter run at the Houston Indoor Opener at the Bill Yeoman Field House here Saturday.
Hulett, who earned all-Southland Conference honors as a freshman and sophomore in cross country, bettered her previous best time of 10:26.88 recorded at the SLC Championships last season.
Junior Linda Rosema placed in two events, including a throw of 49-feet, 10-inches for third place in the weight throw and sevennth place in the shot put with a 38-02 1/4. The weight throw is in its second season in the Southland Conference and Rosema's toss of 49-10 is eight inches off her personal best effort of 50-06 seta t the SLC meet in 2005.
The Mavericks showed depth at pole vault with three student-athletes scoring points. Senior Lacey Moore matched her personal-best with a vault of 11-05.75 for fourth place. Junior Vanessa Maida was sixth at 10-11.75 and freshman Erin Cluiss tied for seventh with a height of 10-11.75.
Freshman Stacey Bennett cleared 5-04 1/4 to tie for third in the high jump. Senior Mandy McGee claimed seventh place after clearing the bar at 5-02 1/4.
Senior runner Ivorita Taylor was fifth in the 800 meters with a 2:16.77 and senior Ellen Garrison took seventh in the 200 meters with a 25.85.
UTA heads to Lubbock for the Wes Kitley Invitational on Friday and the Texas Tech Six-Way Invitational on Saturday. The Southland Conference Indoor Track Championships are Feb. 17-18 in Houston.
