The UT Arlington junior Zack Reeves (Arlington, Texas) and freshman Bryce Easton (Pretoria, South Africa) each carded rounds of 67 to propel the Mavericks to seventh place in the standing after the opening day of the Wolf Pack Classic here Monday.
UT Arlington stands at two-over-par 578 after a morning round of two-over 290 and an even-par afternoon round of 288.
Utah leads the tournament at 14-under-par 562. Iowa State (564), Boise State (569), Denver (570), Nevada (572), Colorado State (573), UT Arlington (578), Hawai'i and Air Force (580) and New Mexico State (582) round out the top-10 teams in the 18-team field.
The remainder of the field includes: Kansas State (584), Arkansas and Fresno State (586), Texas-El Paso (587), Louisiana-Monroe (5990), Gonzaga (592), Southern Utah (599) and Wyoming (621).
Reeves' round of 67 came in the morning and put the junior one stroke behind the leader, Dustin Pimm of Utah. But Reeves stumbled in the afternoon, shooting three-over-par 75. Easton's 67 came in the afternoon, but he shot a 75 in the morning. Both golfers are tied for 11th at two-under-par 142.
Senior Ryan Zamorano (Dallas, Texas) is even-par 144 after rounds of 73 and 71.
Sophomore Michael Mullin (Austin, Texas) had back-to-back rounds of 75 while redshirt freshman Kevin Varrichio (Arlington, Texas) posted rounds of 81 and 79 (160).
Final round play begins at Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the Wolf Run Golf Club in Reno, Nev.
