KANEOHE, Hawai'i - Junior golfer Zack Reeves fired an even-par 72 to lead the UT Arlington Mavericks to seven-over-par 295 and 10th place after the opening day of the 2006 Hawai'i Fall Intercollegiate.

Loyola Marymount (280) had three golfers shoot in the 60s to take a seven-stroke lead in the tournament. Brian Locke (68), Jason D'Amore ( 69) and Jason Escobedo (69) were among six golfers able to crack 70 on the 6,528-yard, par-72, Kaneohe Klipper G.C. layout.

Reeves had his fifth par-or-better round of the fall season Monday. Senior Ryan Zamorano had a 73 while senior Bryan Baker and freshman Bobby Massa shot 75s. Freshman Bryce Easton had a 77 for the Mavs.

"I thought we made some improvement today," said UT Arlington Head Men's Golf Coach Jay Rees said. "We left some shots out there, but this is a tough course and we kept our composure for the most part."

New Mexico State (287) is in second place with host Hawai'i at even-par 288. San Diego (290), Weber State (291), Boise State (292), College of Charleston (292), San Diego State (294), St. Mary's of Calif. (294) and UT Arlington (295) round out the top 10.

The remainder of the field has Hartford (297), Idaho (297), Louisiana Tech (298), San Francisco (298), Drake (300) and Osaka Gakum (327) in the 16-team field.

Second round play will be Tuesday with the third and final round on Wednesday.
