FRISCO, Texas - - UT Arlington's Jodi Hulett has been named the women's Capital One Bank/Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year in the Southland Conference for the recently completed 2006 season.
The student-athlete of the year is annually presented to the individual in each conference sport who achieves excellence in academics and athletics. Nominees shall have earned at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average to go along with superior athletics achievement.
Included in Capital One's support of the Southland Conference Academic Awards Program is the F.L. McDonald Postgraduate Scholarship presented by Capital One, and the Capital One Southland Conference All-Academic Teams, the Capital One Scholar-Athlete Award and the Capital One Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Hulett, a junior from Arlington, Texas, finished third at the SLC Championship to earn all-conference honors for the third consecutive year. From there she went on to qualify for the NCAA Championship by placing eighth at the Regional in Waco, Texas. Her time of 20:53 over the 6,000-meter course was good enough to make her one of three SLC student-athletes to advance to the NCAA meet. Hulett finished 120th among 253 participants at the NCAAs.
Hulett has been named a Super Scholar Athlete each semester of attendance at UTA. The kinesiology major which has a 3.63 GPA was named to the SLC's All-Academic Track and Field/Cross Country Team last year. She has also received the Optimist Club of Arlington Scholarship Endowment award.
