UT Arlington fired a final round 19-over-par 307 and settled for a fourth-place finish at the SMC/Merrill Lynch Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Course here Tuesday.
The tournament was the final tune-up for the defending Southland Conference champions before next week's tournament, April 17-19, at Deerwood Country Club in Kingwood, Texas.
SLC foe Lamar used a final round 297 to nip Xavier for its fifth tournament title of the season by one stroke, 891 to 892.
Fresno State leap frogged past UTA with a final round 305 for a 54-hole total of 908. UTA (909), UC Santa Barbara (916), Cal Poly (916), Santa Clara (917), Loyola Marymount (921) and host Saint Mary's (921) rounded out the top 10.
UTA's Zack Reeves shot a final round 75 to lead the Mavericks. He tied for 11th with the team's low tournament score of nine-over-par 225. Ryan Zamorano (T23/229), Jeff Murray (T28/230), Tyrone Mordt (T38/232) and Michael Douthit (T44/233) completed the scoring. Zamorano had a final round 76 while Mordt carded a 79, Douthit a 77 and Murray an 81.
Fresno State's Jason Anthony won a playoff by default over Lamar's Oliver Bekker. Both tied for medalist honors with a three-round total of 218.
