PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - UT Arlington improved their play by 10 shots in the second round and moved from eighth to fourth place after the first day of the SMC/Merrill Lynch Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Course Monday.
UTA's second round 296 left them with a 36-hole total of 602, one stroke behind Boise State and nine back of the tournament leader Xavier. Lamar stands in second place with a 594, one shot back of the leaders.
Senior Jeff Murray and junior Ryan Zamorano had the best rounds of the day with a 73 in the afternoon round. Zack Reeves remained in the top 20 with his second 75 of the day and stands tied for 16th at 150. Tyrone Mordt had a second round 75 and sits at 153. Michael Douthit had a 79 in the afternoon and is at 156.
Fresno State's Jason Anthony leads the tournament with a 143, two shots ahead of Weber State's Barry Schenk. Five golfers are tied at 147.
Final round action is scheduled for a 7 a.m. start on Tuesday.
