KINGWOOD, Texas - UT Arlington fired a second round eight-over-par 296 to fall into a second-place tie with Lamar, four strokes behind leader Louisiana-Monroe, at the Southland Conference Men's Golf Championships at the Kingwood Deerwood Course Tuesday afternoon.
Louisiana-Monroe (579) carded an even-par round of 288 to take the tournament lead. Lamar (583) had the low round of the day with a one-under 287. Texas-San Antonio (587), Southeastern Louisiana (592), Sam Houston State (597), Stephen F. Austin (599), McNeese State (603), Texas State (603) and Nicholls State (607) round out the 10-team field.
UTA sophomore Zack Reeves posted a two-over 74 to sit in a four-way tie for fourth place with a 36-hole total of one-under-par 143.
Ryan Zamorano posted his second straight 72 and is in the top 10 with a 144. Michael Douthit improved his score by a shot Tuesday with a 73 and sits at 147 after two rounds.
Seniors Jeff Murray (72-80=152) stumbled to an 80 and Tyrone Mordt (79-77=156) posted a 77 on Tuesday.
Texas San Antonio's John Elizondo leads the medalist chase with a two-round total of 138, four shots ahead of Texas State's Bobby Hutcherson and Southeastern Louisiana's Aaron O'Callaghan.
Final round play will begin at 10 a.m. for UT Arlington, Lamar and Louisiana-Monroe.
UTA is looking to defend its conference tournament title from a year ago.
