KINGWOOD, Texas - UT Arlington's bid defend last year's Southland Conference Tournament title slipped away as putts slide by the cup Wednesday. The Mavericks' final round score of 21-over-par 300 was not enough as they tied for fourth place at the 43rd annual SLC Championship.
Lamar won its 16th title with a final round 288 to finish the tournament at 881 on the Kingwqood Deerwood course at the Club at Kingwood.
Texas-San Antonio's John Elizondo shot a final round 75 for a 54-hole total of 213 to take the medalist title and lead the Roadrunner's to a second-place finish at 890.
Louisiana-Monroe (291-288-302) finished third with an 891. UTA (287-296-300) and Southeastern Louisiana (295-297-291) came in with an 893.
Sam Houston State (901), Stephen F. Austin (903), McNeese State (905), Nicholls State (906) and Texas State (910) rounded out the field.
Zack Reeves tied for fourth place with a three-round total of 218. He shot a final day 75 after beginning the tournament with a 69 on Monday and a 74 Tuesday.
Juniors Ryan Zamorano and Michael Douthit tied for 11th place 221. Douthit (74-73-73) carded a 73 on Wednesday while Zamorano finished with a 76 after back-to-back 72s.
Senior Jeff Murray (72-80-76) tied for 29th after a 76 on Wednesday. Senior Tyrone Mordt finished tied for 43rd with a 235 (79-77-79).
UT Arlington will wait to see if they receive an at-large berth at one of the NCAA regional tournament sites, May 18-20.
