UT Arlington senior sprinter Ellen Garrison made her last appearance at Maverick Stadium a memorable one as she ran the anchor leg of the 4x100-meter relay to a first-place finish during the final day of the 2006 Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Monday.
Garrison, who also earned all-conference honors in the 100 meters with a third-place finish and a time of 11.63, held off Sam Houston State with a time of 45.52.
"I wish we would have had Ellen for four years," said UTA Head Track and Field Coach John Sauerhage of the junior college All-American from St. Louis, Mo. "She had a great conference meet and now we will put all of our energy on the (NCAA) regionals."
Kourtnee Jones earned all-conference honors with a second-place finish in the 200 meters and Jodi Hulett claimed her second all-conference honor of the meet with second place in the 5,000 meters off a time of 17-minutes, 07-seconds.
UT Arlington finished fifth in the team standings with 68 points. Sam Houston State defended their team titled with 164 points. Texas State (135), S.F. Austin (101.5), Texas-San Antonio (85) rounded out the top four. Lamar (63) took sixth place with Northwestern State (58), Southeastern Louisiana (52.5), La.-Monroe (44), McNeese State (40) and Nicholls State (8) rounding out the standings.
