CLEVELAND, Ohio - The UT Arlington men's golf team could not find the magic club as they shot a 23-over-par 307 and are tied 16th place after the second day of the NCAA Division I Men's Central regional Tournament at the Sand Ridge Golf course Friday.
UTA is tied with Missouri at 37-over-par 605. Second-ranked Oklahoma State leads through 36 holes with the only under-par score in the tournament at three-under-par 565. Northwestern (574), Texas A&M (575), Lamar (581), Minnesota (583), Georgia Tech (583), Duke (587), Oklahoma (590), TCU (590) and Clemson (590) round out the top 10. The top 10 teams advance to the NCAA National Championships in Sunriver, Ore, May 30-June 3.
The Mavericks sat in the clubhouse and watched teams free fall during the morning rounds. UTA actually climbed to as high as eighth place before teeing off as teams continued to fight inclement weather. But the Sand Ridge Golf Course was a rude host for the Mavericks as UTA could only manage five birdies on the day on the tight 7,173-yard, par-71 layout.
Junior Ryan Zamorano and senior Jeff Murray posted a team-best five-over-par 76 on Friday. Zamorano went four-over-par on his last five holes and Murray finished three-over-par his last three holes with a bogey on the par-three No. 7 and a double bogey on the ninth hole.
After shooting a five-over-par 41 on the back nine, Zack Reeves played holes 1 through 9 at one-over-par and finished with a 76.
Senior Tyrone Mordt carded a 78 with six bogeys on the final nine holes and Michael Douthit posted nine bogeys for an 80.
For the tournament, Reeves and Zamorano are tied for 58th at eight-over-par 150.
