KOURTNEE JONES ADVANCES TO FINALS

May 26, 2006

AUSTIN, Texas - UT Arlington junior sprinter Kourtnee Jones used personal best times in the 100 and 200 meter races to advance to Saturday's finals in each event of the 2006 NCAA Midwest Regional Track and Field Championships Friday at the Mike A. Myers Stadium here.

The Abilene, Texas, native, who earned all-Southland Conference honors with a second-place finish in the 200 and as the third leg of the sprint relay team that won the conference championship, posted a career-best mark of 23.70 seconds to finish fourth in heat 2. Her time of 11.48 in the 100 meters was the last qualifying time to advance to Saturday's 6:50 p.m. finals.

The top five individuals in each event and the top five relay times advance to the NCAA National Track and Field Championships, June 7-10, in Sacramento, Calif.

Senior sprinter Ellen Garrison ended her career with a time of 11.54 in the women's 200 meters.

Sophomore Angela Gonzales finished fourth in flight 1 with a jump of 5.87 meters (19-feet, 3.25-inches).

The Mavs' 4x100-meter relay team of Kim Hargers, Chelsea Huddleston, Jones and Garrison failed to advance to Saturday's finals with a time of 45.97.
