OOLTEWAH, Tenn. - UT Arlington fired a final round 27-over-par 315 to fall into eighth place at the Scenic City Invitational here Tuesday.
Charlotte won the tournament with a Tuesday-best 12-over-par 300 score. The 49ers finished the tournament nine strokes better than Middle Tennessee State (899), Mississippi State (901), Alabama-Birmingham (908) and Memphis (910) rounded out the top five. Mississippi (912) took sixth place while Tennessee-Chattanooga (914), UT Arlington (921) and Louisiana Tech and Southeastern Louisiana (both 931) round out the top 10.
Senior Ryan Zamorano (Dallas, Texas) was the top Mav golfer with a final round 77 and a 54-hole total of 229 to tie for 22nd place. Freshman Bryce Easton (Durban, South Africa) and Zack Reeves (Arlington, Texas) were among six golfers tied at 231.
Easton had a 78 Tuesday while Reeves, a first-team all-Southland Conference pick last season, finished the day eight-over-par 80.
Freshman Kevin Varrichio (Arlington, Texas) and Michael van de Venter (Centurion, South Africa) also scored 80 to finish with a 235 and 237, respectively.
No player shot under par on Tuesday, but UAB's Garrett Osborn was good enough to win the medalist title with a final round 74 to finish the tournament one-over-par 217.
UT Arlington will travel to Richmond, Va., for the Mattiponi Springs Shootout, Sept. 25-26.
