TULSA, Okla. - The UT Arlington volleyball team closed out the Oral Roberts Classic in convincing fashion as they handed St. Francis (NY) a 30-12, 30-7, 30-25 defeat Saturday afternoon.
The Mavs (11-5) used an 11-0 run on the serve of Gina Kalb. The reserves led the game one attack as Michelle Schwartz recorded three kills and a block and Liz Curry added six kills.
Schwartz sparked the rally in the second game as she served three straight aces on her way to serving 16 straight points. Sophomore Ally Wade came off the bench with three kills. The Mavs hit .704 in the game as they had 19 kills and no errors in 27 attempts.
The Terriers (0-9) were able to avoid the big run in the final game and hung in, finding themselves trailing only 21-20. UTA did its part to keep SFC in the game by committing nine errors in the game.
Curry paced the Mavs with 18 kills and was joined in double figures by Ellen Murray with 10. Schwartz posted a career-best five serviced aces to go along with nine kills.
The Mavs return to action on Sept. 23 as they open Southland Conference action against Texas State. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Texas Hall.
