HOUSTON - Senior sprinter Coby Morrison clocked a personal best time of 10.55 seconds for fifth place in the 100 meters to highlight the Mavs in their 2007 outdoor season opener - the Tom Tellez Invitational Saturday.
He won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.73 seconds and was also a member of the 4x100-meter relay team that beat the field with a time of 46.15 seconds.
Other top performances include:
- Newcomer Eddie Beckwith finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 48.54.
- Idilio Campos finished second in the 1,500 meters with a 3:59.75 and second in the 800 meters with a 1:54.75.
- Senior Jon McDowell placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.22.
- Freshman Jared Tuel tied for third in the pole vault with a vault of 15-07.
- Andrew Duncan placed second in the long jump with a leap of 22-08.50 and saecond in the triple jump with a leap of 46-00.75. Duncan also scored in the high jump with a leap of 6-06.25 to tie for seventh place.
- David Mannering placed second in the hammer toss with a personal-best throw of 137-09.
- Curtis Hoyle placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.27. - Ozie Hood finished seventh in the 1,500 meters with a 4:10.75.
The women's and men's team will compete at the Horned Frog Invitational in Fort Worth on Saturday.
