FORT WORTH, Texas - UT Arlington senior sprinter Kourtnee Jones qualified for the NCAA Regional Meet for the second straight season after a time of 11.70 seconds in the 100 meters at the Horned Frog Invitational at the Lowdon Track and Field Complex here Saturday.
Jones' time in the 100 meters was good enough for third place and was the fastest time in the Southland Conference this spring. She also clocked a league-best 24.06 for second place in the 200 meters.
"We are really pleased with the way we ran today," said UTA Head Track and field Coach John Sauerhage. "We will take some momentum into our meet next week. These next two weeks are really important for us as we try and qualify people for regional."
Senior thrower Linda Rosema broke a school record with a hammer throw of 51.83 meters (170-00) and set a personal best in the discus with a throw of 141-feet, 11-inches.
Freshman Antonia Hopkins turned the first sub-57 time in more than three seasons with a 56.67 for second place in the 400 meters. Bryana Hill was third with a 57.90 and Chamberlain Garber was fifth with a 58.15.
Eight-time all-SLC runner, Ivorita Taylor, won the 800 meters with the fastest time in the SLC, a 2:12.38. Teammate Carranda Mose was fourth (2:19.82) and Jessica Collins placed eighth (2:30.37).
Sophomore Stacey Bennett matched a personal-best height of 1.70 meters (5-07.00).
Senior Vanessa Maida and sophomore Erin Cluiss equaled each other with a height of 3.50 meters (11-05.75) for second and third, respectively. Freshman Lauren Marks finished fifth with a vault of 10-06.00.
Angela Gonzales finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.76 meters (18-10.75).
Freshman Kim Strong finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 35-03.75 and sixth in the long jump (16-07.25).
Freshman Jasmine Walls was fifth in both the 100 meters (11.89) and the 200 meters (24.37).
The women's and men's team will host the Bobby Lane/Arlington Invitational, March 30-31, at Maverick Stadium.
