Sitting in third place after the morning round of golf, the UT Arlington men's golf team could not make a move on leader Baylor and fell back into eighth place after the opening day of the Saint Mary's Invitational here Monday.

The Mavericks posted rounds of 295 and 296 for a 15-over par 591 on Monday to sit in eighth place, 10 strokes behind leader Baylor in this opening tournament of the 2007 fall season. Baylor has led from the start with a 36-hole total of five-over-par 581, four shots better than Alabama-Birmingham (585). Top-50 ranked Wisconsin (586), Memphis (587) and Santa Clara (589) finish the top five. Long Beach State (590), Loyola Marymount (590), UT Arlington (591), Saint Mary's (593) and Eastern Michigan (594) round out the top 10.

The rest of the field includes: Colorado (598), Nevada (598), San Jose State (601), Miami of Ohio (607), Houston (611), Kansas (611), Nebraska (614) and San Francisco (616) complete the 18-team field.

Individually, UT Arlington senior Zack Reeves had an even-par 72 in the morning and a 75 in the afternoon to sit at three-over-par 147. Freshman Zack Fischer made his collegiate debut with rounds of 73 and 74 to tie Reeves for 17th place after the opening day. Sophomore Michael van de Venter (73-75-148) is tied for 25th while sophomores Bryce Easton (77-73-150) and Bobby Massa (78-74-152) completed the scoring for the Mavs.

Baylor's Wesley Williams and UAB's Brad Smith lead the tournament at 141.

The final round is Tuesday on the par-72, 6,857-yards Poppy Hills course.
