NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The UT Arlington men's and women's cross country teams each placed fourth at the Southland Conference Championships on Monday morning at Piney Woods Country Club in Nacogdoches, Texas. The men's 8K race was won by Lamar with 29 total points while the women's 6K race was won by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with 49 points. Top individual champions were senior Samuel Kosgei (Lamar) with a 24 minute, 13 second time and junior Dana Mecke (UTSA), who won the women's race with a time of 21:39.

The Mavericks were once again led by senior Idilio Campos, who finished in fifth-place with a time of 25:23. Campos recorded the same time when he won the North Texas Invitational championship (Sept. 27) earlier this season. It was Campos' fourth top-five finish this season.

UT Arlington had six of its eight runners finish inside the top 50, with senior Ozie Hood (26:14) finishing 17th, senior Ivan Pinal (26:58) taking 29th, sophomore Zach Zura (27:14) claiming 36th, freshman Taylor Gill (27:31) finishing 43rd and sophomore Heinz Schwarzkopf (27:33) grabbing 45th place.

The men's team collected 130 total team points, finishing just one point behind third-place Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Stephen F. Austin was runner-up as they tallied 87 points, which was 58 points behind tournament champion Lamar.

The Maverick women had five of their runners inside the top 32 runners at the meet. Senior Caroline Erlingson was just outside the top 10 with an 11th place finish. Her time of 22:40 is a personal-best this season, and is the third consecutive 6K race that she has improved her time from her previous mark.

UT Arlington had a pack of three runners that finished 19th, 22nd and 24th. Junior Christina Mose (23:15) took 19th, sophomore Perri Ford (23:25) notched a 22nd-place finish and freshman Jennifer Carey (23:28) came in 24th.

Sophomore Amanda McMahon posted a 32nd-place finish with a time of 23:49 for the Mavericks.

UT Arlington notched 108 total team points, which was behind second-place Stephen F. Austin (61 points) and Texas State (95 points).

The UT Arlington men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the NCAA Regional meet on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Waco, Texas.
