UT Arlington/Hilton Invitational Tournament Central
ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington volleyball team opened play at the UT Arlington/Hilton Invitational with a loss to Duke, marking the Mavs' fourth straight loss. Duke's .468 hitting percentage is the highest for any UT Arlington opponent this season. Senior Ally Wade and freshman Amanda Aguilera led UT Arlington with seven kills apiece. Six Duke players hit above .400 as the Blue Devils (5-2) cruised to their first victory in this weekend's tournament. The Mavericks drop to 3-6 overall on the season.
The Blue Devils made an early statement with a 25-10 first-set victory. UT Arlington equaled its seven kills with seven errors for a .000 hitting percentage. Freshman middle blocker Christy Driscoll led the Mavs with three kills in the opening set.
Aguilera, an outside hitter from Pearland, Texas, gave the Mavs an early 2-1 lead in the second set with two kills. Duke then answered going on a 10-2 run that included a pair of kills from sophomore middle blocker Becci Burling and freshman outside hitter/middle blocker Sophia Dunworth.
The Mavericks only had four hitting errors in the second set (.138 hitting percentage), but couldn't stop Duke's offensive attack as the Blue Devils recorded 19 kills.
Duke's Rachel Moss was one of two Blue Devils to post double figures in kills with a match-high 13. Dunworth also had a strong match with 10 kills and six digs.
UT Arlington's only lead in the third and final set came on the opening point with a kill from Aguilera. Sophomore setter Raegan Daniel was among team leaders with five kills and led the team with 17 assists.
Freshman libero Alicia Shaffer tallied a team-high nine digs and collected three assists.
The Mavericks will look to rebound on Saturday morning with a 10 a.m. tilt against No. 13 nationally-ranked Middle Tennessee State (7-0) at Texas Hall.

No. 13 Middle Tennessee defeated South Carolina State (3-0)
In the tournament opener, No. 13 Middle Tennessee State defeated South Carolina State, 25-16, 25-11, 25-18, while posting a .406 hitting percentage for the match. Blue Raider sophomore outside hitter Izabela Kozon led all players with 12 kills and an eye-popping .611 hitting percentage (12 kills-1 error-18 attempts). South Carolina State was blanked at the net with zero blocks, while Middle Tennessee notched 14 block assists. South Carolina State leaned on Gisela Kloss, who tallied a team-high nine kills on 24 swings.
