OAK HILLS INVITATIONAL FINAL RESULTS 
SAN ANTONIO, Tx. - The UTA golf team used an overall team effort Tuesday to post a second place finish at the Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio.
UTA finished with a team score of eight-under par 844 behind only 15th-ranked Texas Tech who finished at 824. The Mavericks finished 16 shots ahead of third place Texas State.
"It was a solid team effort that helped us finish second in this tournament," said UTA head coach Jay Rees. "They did a great job and if it had not been for Texas Tech, we would have ran away with this tournament. Anytime you shoot under par as a team it is a great accomplishment."
Zack Fischer and Kevin Carrigan led the Mavs Tuesday as they carded identical scores of two-under par 69. Fischer finished the tournament in a tie for third with a three-under par score of 213. It was the highest finish of his career.
Carrigan rebounded from his 74-75 start on Monday and finished the tournament in a tie for 24th at 218.
Three other Mavericks finished in the top 20 as Michael Van de Venter was tied for 11th at one-over par 214 (67-72-75), Bryce Easton was in a tie for 17th at three-over par 216 (69-73-74) and Bobby Massa was in a tie for 19th with a four-over par score of 217 (81-65-71). UTA's Donald Dowie competed as an individual and finished in a tie for 34th at 222 (77-69-76).
"This was a great way to start the spring season after our strong finish in the fall," said Rees. "The conditions were tough today and we played well. I'm proud of the way the guys played."
