Macon, Ga. - The UT Arlington golf team had their best round of the season Friday and stand in a tie for sixth after the first round of the Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Georgia.
The Mavericks shot a 4-over team score of 292 and while they are in a tie for sixth, they are just five shots behind leader Georgia who shot a one-under 287.
"We had struggled in first rounds all season but today we came to play," UTA head coach Jay Rees said. "We were much better and we are right in the mix to have a great weekend."
Zack Fischer shot a 3-under 69 to finish in a tie for fourth as he is trying to win his first tournament of the year. He is just one shot off the lead.
Wes Worster shot an even par 72 and is in a tie for 13th. Enrique Livas carded a 3-over 75 while the final player to count in the team score was Paul McConnell who shot 76. Cameron Hollek is the final UTA player this week and he shot 82.
