Corvallis, Ore. - Corvallis, Ore. - The UT Arlington men's basketball couldn't continue their hot start to and fell 71-56 at Oregon State Sunday.

The Mavericks (1-1) came out of the blocks fast with a barrage of 3-pointers as they took a 16-4 lead early in the game. At one point midway through the half, UTA was shooting over 70% but finished the half at 54%.

Oregon State (1-0) came back to overtake the Mavericks toward the end of the half and led by two at the break at 37-35. The Beavers then scored the first six points of the second half to take control of the game.

The Mavericks were plagued by turnovers the entire game as they turned the ball over 24 times that Oregon State turned into 30 points. While UTA held a 35-31 rebounding advantage, Oregon State held a 15-1 difference in second chance points. The Beavers also had 16 fast break points to the Mavericks' two.

There were a lot of positives here today," UTA head coach Scott Cross said. "We held a Pac-10 team to just 43% from the field and that was a good effort on our part. There were a lot of positives today but we just need to continue to get better."

LaMarcus Reed led the Mavericks with 15 points and added a team-high six rebounds. Jordan Reves added 12.

Omari Johnson had 15 points to lead four Beavers in double figures.

Late in the game the Mavericks were able to cut the lead to eight at 5:33 and had a chance to cut into it further but turned the ball over OSU's Jared Cunningham converted a fast break and to make the lead 10 and the Mavericks never got closer than nine the remainder of the game

UTA returns home Tuesday to host UT Tyler at Texas Hall. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
