ARLINGTON, Tex. - Bianca Sauls earned her first-career triple-double and UT Arlington shook off its early struggles to defeat Southeastern Louisiana 3-1 Thursday night at Texas Hall.
Sauls finished with 10 kills, 10 assists and 13 digs, but the Mavericks got out of the gates slow. They bounced back in the second set, though, and continued on for the 18-25, 25-14, 25-15, 27-25 victory.
UTA (13-14, 7-6) ran its win streak to four matches despite hitting just .106 in the first set.
The team changed the momentum in Game 2, hitting .353 and following it up with a .593 attack percentage in Game 3. The Mavs dominated both sets before putting the Lions away in the fourth.
"I think after Game 2 we got our momentum going and our confidence going," Sauls said. "Going into Game 3 our focus was keeping that momentum and that intensity because they are a team that will fight back because they have nothing to lose."
UTA coach Diane Seymour said the way her team started the match was frustrating, as were the 11 service errors.
"I just think we got off to a slow, sluggish start," Seymour said. "With the exception of the offensive part of our game, we were missing too many serves so we could never break away. The serving was just abysmal tonight. Thankfully our seniors played pretty well and our offense was consistent for the most part."
The win marked the 105th of Seymour's coaching career, moving her past Jody Conradt for fourth on the program's all-time wins list.
Raegan Daniel flirted with a triple-double as well. The senior setter captured her 10th double-double of the season with 41 assists and 16 digs, but missed her second triple-double this season by two kills.
Amanda Aguilera notched her 11th double-double of the season in the victory, earning team-highs with 20 digs and 17 kills.
Tara Frantz recorded 12 kills, running her streak of 10-kill matches to 10.
Alicia Shaffer had 18 digs for the Mavs and Kendall Whitson added 11.
Christy Driscoll had six blocks and seven kills.
Allison Jones led Southeastern Louisiana (1-12, 10-20) with 14 kills.
The Mavs return to the court Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Nicholls at Texas Hall.
