Southland Conference Tournament Day One Results
Day Two Tee Times
Springfield, La. - The UT Arlington golf team is in seventh place after day one of the 48th Southland Conference Tournament at Carter Plantation in Springfield, La.
In what was shaping up to be a battle of host Southeastern Louisiana, four-time defending champion Lamar and the Mavericks, there are two upstarts in Central Arkansas and Sam Houston State leading the field at three-over. Southeastern is in third at six-over while Lamar is in sixth at 11-over par.
The Mavericks find themselves 10 shots behind the co-leaders as the best any of the five players could do was a pair of two-over par scores of 74 by Hunter Brown and Bryce Easton. That score puts them in a tie for 16th.
Bobby Massa carded a three-over 75 and is in a tie for 19th. Wes Worster finished day one at six-over 78 and is in a tie for 39th.
The most surprising score of the day came from the Mavericks number one player Zack Fischer. The junior, who won the Southland Preview on this course in the fall, shot a nine-over 81 to finish in 42nd.
Nicko Dodd of UTSA and Gideon Pienaar of Central Arkansas are the individual leaders after day one at three-under. They were just two of the 10 golfers in the 50-player field to shoot par or better Monday.
The tournament's second round is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
