Mavericks sixth after day two of Southland Golf Tournament

April 27, 2010

Springfield, La. - Bryce Easton led the charge for UTA Tuesday at the Southland Conference Golf Championships with a two-under 70 but the Mavericks as a team find themselves in sixth place after Tuesday's second round.

Starting on the back nine, Easton bogeyed his first two holes before registering five birdies on the next seven holes to go out in three under 33. He then bogeyed his 10th hole before recording a par on his final eight holes.

His play Tuesday has him in the hunt for medalist honors as he is in a tie for third at even par 144 after shooting the third-lowest score Tuesday. Alvaro Arizabaleta of Southeastern Louisiana leads the tournament at five-under 139. Easton is one of six players at even or better for the tournament.

Bobby Massa shot a two-over 74 Tuesday and is at five-over 75 for the tournament and in a tie for 12th after starting the day in a tie for 19th.

Zack Fischer rebounded from his 81 Monday to shoot a three-over 75 Tuesday. He shot an even par 36 on his first nine holes but then had four bogeys in the first eight holes on his back nine. He birdied the last hole to finish the day at +12 for the tournament and in a tie for 38th.

Wes Worster and Hunter Brown each shot five-over 77's. Each player shot a one-over 37 on the front nine before going four-over 40 on the back nine. Both players are in a tie for 35th.

The final three holes proved to be the downfall for the Mavericks as they combined to shoot six-over on those holes.

The Mavericks improved by five shots as a team Tuesday as they carded an eight-over 296. Host Southeastern Louisiana came from behind Tuesday to take the lead in the tournament as they shot three-under 285 as a team. They lead Central Arkansas by two shots heading into Wednesday's final round.

First round co-leader Sam Houston State fell off the pace with an 11-over 299 Tuesday and is in third place at +14. Stephen F. Austin is in fourth at +15 while Lamar is in fifth at +18.
