The UT Arlington golf team had their best round of the Southland Conference Tournament in Wednesday's final round but all it could do is help the Mavs move up one spot as they finished fifth in this year's tournament.

UTA shot a six-over team total of 294 and completed the tournament at 27-over par. Southeastern Louisiana, the host of the tournament, won the event with a team score of two-under 862. Central Arkansas was second (+9) and they were followed by Sam Houston State (+22) and Stephen F. Austin (+23). Four-time defending champion Lamar finished sixth at +28.

Bryce Easton started the day in a tie for third but shot a five-over 77 Wednesday and slipped to a tie for ninth in the championship. The senior got off to a rough start as he shot six-over over his first nine holes before carding a one-under 35 on his back nine.

Hunter Brown had the low round for the Mavs with a one-under 71. He finished in a tie for 12th at six-over for the tournament. He started out with two birdies in the first three holes before shooting an even par 36 on his front side. He then made a birdie on the fourth (his 13th hole) and parred the remaining holes for his score of 71.

Zack Fischer shot an even-par 72 in round three. He moved up to a tie for 29th at +12 for the tournament. He was consistent all day as he registered three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars for his even par score.

Bobby Massa also finished at +12 after shooting a seven-over 79 Wednesday. He started off with a 41 on his front nine before making birdie on his 10th hole and an eagle on his 11th hole. That streak was derailed by two double bogeys and a bogey over the next seven holes.

Wes Worster was a shot back from those two as he finished at +13 and in a tie for 31st. He shot a two-over 74 in the final round. He had six bogeys and four birdies on his card.

The medalist of the tournament was Southeastern's Alvaro Arizabaleta who blitzed the field with an eight-under score of 208 to win by eight shots.
