ARLINGTON, Tex. - UT Arlington signee Shelby Dickson earned a spot on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Two-Year Colleges All-America team, the AVCA announced.
The honor meant Dickson brought home a couple All-America titles. She also earned a spot on the NJCAA Division I All-America team.
Dickson led Blinn Junior College to an NJCAA national championship this year.
The Buccaneers finished the 2011 season with a perfect 38-0 record, capped off with a four set victory over No. 3 seed Western Wyoming Community College to earn the national title.
Dickson, a sophomore from A&M Consolidated, finished the season with 356 kills, 48 blocks and 266 digs. She was named the national tournament MVP on Nov. 19.
"Jackie (Gerig) and Shelby were instrumental in helping us achieve our ultimate team goal of winning a national championship, and are very deserving of the awards," Blinn head coach David Rehr said. "We wouldn't have the individual awards if not for the overall success of the team."
Dickson, who has two years of eligibility remaining, signed with the Mavericks and will enroll in school in time for the spring semester.
