ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington men's tennis team ended the regular-season with a 5-2 loss to No. 42 Rice Sunday, April 17.
The Mavs were unable to carry their two big wins from conference to Sunday's matchup. The Mavericks wrapped up the regular-season with a 12-9 record and a 3-2 conference mark.
Harry Fowler and Oscar Podlewski defeated Mindaugas Celedinas and David Subirats in the No.1 position, 8-6. Michael Nuesslein and Christian Saravia took down the most dominant of the Mavs doubles teams of freshman Lucas Leppin and senior Brieuc Hamon 8-5.
In the No. 3 spot, Peter Frank and Sam Garforth-Bles took down Giacomo Sano and Nicolas Moreno 8-3.
UTA moved to singles action where the Mavs were able to earn two points. Celedinas pulled out a huge victory for the Mavericks.
Celedinas handed No. 96 Fowler a 6-4, 6-1 loss of in the top flight while Jason Lateko gave the Mavs another point when he defeated Andy Wang 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 6 spot.
Garforth-Bles defeated Subirats in the No.3 spot 6-3, 6-2 while Saravia handed freshman Erik Hjertonsson a 6-1, 6-1 loss in the No. 4 position.
Nuesslein's win over Moreno sealed it for the Owls with a score of 6-0, 6-4.
Podlewski's match against Yakauleu was put into a tie breaker with the match already determined where he won with a final score of 4-6, 6-4, and 1-0 (10-1)
The Mavericks head into the Southland Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed. Tournament action is set to begin April 29-May 1 at the UTSA Tennis Center in San Antonio, Texas.
