ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women's volleyball team has begun preparation for the 2012-2013 season.
As the university prepares to move to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) beginning July 1, 2012, the Mavericks expect good chemistry to be one of their key components.
The team will include a roster of juniors, sophomores and freshman. UT Arlington coach Diane Seymour believes the team will have to rely not just on one person but the whole team.
"We have to play older than we are," Seymour said. "We are going to be very young next season with no seniors on the team."
The team did manage to do some very good recruiting, landing transfer Shelby Dickson. Dickson led Blinn Junior College to an NJCAA national championship last year. Now she has her sights set on lifting UT Arlington to the next level.
The Mavericks finished fourth in the West Division of the Southland Conference last year and believe this year will be better. Coach Seymour said last season the team experienced much traveling where they played many games on the road.
"Moving to the WAC, we know the traveling will be much more extensive so we look to have a balance of good play, both at home and on the road," Seymour said.
