ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington volleyball team took center court Thursday for their first practice on the arena floor in College Park Center. The Mavericks started workouts for the 2012 season Wednesday and were eager to get their first taste of playing in a 7,000-seat arena.

This year's UTA volleyball team will go down in the record books as the first Mavs team to play a complete season in CPC. After opening in February of 2012, men's and women's basketball competed in nine games, collectively, in the new arena.

"We were all very excited for today," UTA head coach Diane Seymour said. "The CPC is an awesome environment for volleyball."

With such a young team, only six returners all of which are sophomores, nearly everyone is starting fresh in UTA's new home arena. "I think we will feel comfortable here very quickly," Seymour continued."This facility is set up nicely to where we can curtain off the upper deck to bring our fans closer to the court."

The Mavericks will open their season on Friday, Aug. 24, against Savannah State at 7 p.m. in the kickoff game of the UTA Hilton Invitational Tournament. Click here for the complete UT Arlington 2012 volleyball schedule.
