UT Arlington won the first set against the Eastern Michigan Eagles 27-25, but the Eagles answered back with a 25-19 victory over the Mavericks in set two. The Mavs pulled off another close two-point win in the third set (25-23) to go into the fourth set leading 2-1.
Eastern Michigan started the fourth set strong and never let up. The Eagles went on a 4-0 run early in the set and 5-0 run late in the set to win 25-17. EMU picked up the fifth set with a 15-9 win and the Mavericks fell to 1-1 in UIC Invitational play.
Shelby Dickson and Amy Davault each finished with a double-double. Dickson had 12 kills and 24 digs while Davault had 16 kills and 18 digs. This marks the second time these two have double-doubled in the same match.
In the Mavericks' second match of the day the team fell in three straight sets to IPFW (25-19, 25-23, 25-18).
Davault led the Mavericks with 10 kills, while picking up five digs against IPFW. The Mavericks are now 3-4 overall and completed the UIC Invitational tournament with a 1-2 record.
"I think we let a good opportunity slip away against the Eastern Michigan team and then we were pretty emotionally drained going into the last match," UTA head coach Diane Seymour said.
At the conclusion of the UIC Invitational, Amanda Welsh was named to the all-tournament team. Joining Welsh is Sara Sternard from UIC, Rachel Iaquaniello from EMU, and Hailie Ripley and Haley Emenhiser from IPFW.
