PALM DESERT, California - Jake Argento remained within striking distance of the lead, while UT Arlington dropped into a tie for ninth after Saturday's second round of the 2015 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.
Argento followed up 3-under-par 69 with a 1-over 73 at the Classic Club, leaving the senior tied for fourth with a 2-under 140. The Mavericks shot a plus-15 303 to fall from a tie for fifth place after the opening round.
Aaron Guanlao shot a 76 to fall 13 spots into a tie for 27th. The other second-round scores and places were Cash Wilkerson (78, T63), and Jake Greenspoon (76, T86) and Zach Galliford (79, T91). Marley Sweeney (75, T70) is playing as an individual.
"The team played OK today considering the wind came up quite strong," UTA interim coach Stuart Powell said. "The guys did not handle it as well as I thought we could have. Jake Argento led the team with another 1-over par. I have confidence that we will play better tomorrow. The guys are focused, and we go off early so that will catch the good greens and less wind."
Texas Tech has the team lead at 13 under, nine shots free of second-place TCU. The final round gets underway Sunday morning.
