MBB: Former UTA star Haynes signs with Italian champs

UT Arlington graduate and former All-American guard MarQuez Haynes has signed a contract with Italian champion Dinamo Sassari for the 2015-16 season, the club announced Monday.

Haynes, 28, spent last season with Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv, his second full Euroleague campaign. He averaged 4.6 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists coming off the bench in 25 Euroleague games for Maccabi. In the Israeli League, Haynes averaged 8.3 points, 2.3 assist and 2 rebounds per game.

Haynes returns to Italy, where he previously played for EA7 Emporio Armani Milan and Montepaschi Siena during 2013-14. Haynes moved to Montepaschi Siena in January 2014, quickly becoming the star of the team and leading them to the Italian League finals.

Haynes played 34 games with Siena in Serie A (Italian League first division), 17 regular season games and 17 playoff games. In that time he posted averages of 14.6 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.1 rebounds. Haynes averaged 12 points, 4.7 assists and 2.7 rebounds in the Eurocup.

Haynes started playing professionally in 2010 with Chalon-sur-Saone in France, and has also played with Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas in Spain and Artland Dragons in Germany.

Haynes spent two seasons at UT Arlington (2008-10) after transferring from Boston College. As a senior, the Irving native was named Player of the Year in the Southland Conference and was third in the country in scoring at 22.6 points per game.
