ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington took the court in its annual Blue and White Scrimmage at College Park Center on Monday night.

"In the first set we looked a little bit nervous with some of the communication things that go on and that's the whole point of doing this dress rehearsal," UT Arlington coach Diane Seymour said. "I saw some good play out of our middle blockers for sure and some good, long rallies so I thought that we got what we wanted out of this scrimmage."

The Mavericks open up the 2015 campaign on Friday in the Maverick Classic at College Park Center when they take on Campbell at 7 p.m. The two-day tournament will also include games against Grambling and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

UTA will look to build on a record-breaking season that saw the programs best winnings percentage since 2004 and the most wins since 2006. The Mavericks finished the season 25-9 overall with a 14-6 mark in Sun Belt play.

Leading the charge for the Mavs will be sophomore Qiana Canete, a Preseason All-Sun Belt Team selection. The Copperas Cove native led UTA with 376 kills during the 2014 season, while also notching the second most digs at 480. Canete also tabbed a team-high 18 double-doubles, the most of any freshman in the Sun Belt.

"We started off kind of slow and after that first set we just told each other we need to have fun," sophomore outside hitter Qiana Canete said. "We just hyped each other up and then we got more competitive throughout the other sets."
