LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Junior Tanner Gore registered his first top 15 finish of the season to lead the UT Arlington men's golf team to a fifth place finish at the Little Rock Invitational today at Chenal Country Club.

Gore, a native of El Paso, turned in scores of 75-73-74 to finish in a 4-golfer tie for 14th place in the 66-golfer field with a 6-over par 222. He moved up nine spots on the leaderboard despite today's windy conditions that saw gusts as high as 40 mph.

As a team, UTA turned in scores of 296-293-307 to finish the 54-hole event at 32-over par 896. The Mavericks finished just one stroke behind Dayton and two behind third place Stephen F. Austin.

Host Little Rock claimed the team title at 15-over par, nine strokes ahead of runner-up Illinois State. Redbird junior Trent Wallace claimed medalist honors with a 6-under par 210, two strokes ahead of runner-up Caleb Wolters of Dayton. Little Rock's Aaron Ramos was the only other golfer to register a score below par.

Gore started today's final round with three birdies among his first six holes. However, a rough patch that saw him drop five shots put him at 2-over after 12. Gore moved to even par on the day after an eagle on the par 5, 566-yard 15th hole. He hit his drive to 230 yards out, placed his second shot on the right side of the green then drained a 60-foot putt. Following pars on the next two holes, an ill-timed bogey on No. 18 dropped him to 2-over on the day.

Senior Aaron Guanlao (Haslet, Texas) also moved up nine spots on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 23rd. He registered scores of 76-74-74 to finish at 8-over par 224. Like Gore, he opened the day quickly by posting a pair of birdies among his first three holes. After dropping to 2-over with a bogey on No. 16, he finished the round strong with five straight pars.

Graduate transfer Nick Thornton (Boerne, Texas) tied for 27th at 11-over par 227 with rounds of 74-75-78, while senior Jake Greenspoon (Houston, Texas) and Camilo Avila (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) each tied for 32nd at 13-over. Freshman Paul Gonzalez (Waxahachie, Texas) finished in a tie for 35th at 13-over par.

UTA will conclude its fall season Nov. 6-8 at the Saint Mary's Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif. The Mavericks will open their spring season on Feb. 16-18 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif. The annual Sun Belt Conference Championship is scheduled for April 22-24 at Raven Golf Club in Miramar, Fla.
